About Rob Roskopp
At the age of 19, Rob Roskopp traveled from Ohio to California with just $800 in his pocket with the intention of going to college, but within a year he was sponsored by Independent Trucks as a professional skateboarder. He then had his part in Scott Dietrich's Wheels of Fire alongside Natas Kaupas, Steve Alba and Christian Hosoi. Santa Cruz gave him a few pro-models at that time, including one of the most famous of the 80s: The Rob Roskopp "face" designed by Jim Phillips.
However, he quit skating in 1990 to study business at San Jose State University and work part-time at Santa Cruz Skateboards. Three years later, he co-founded Santa Cruz Bicycles with Rick Novak, in a space the size of a garage. He has since been CEO of the brand.
